The iPhone 13 is the newest addition to the iPhone lineup. It has four models, from the iPhone 13 mini to the iPhone 13 pro-Max. Let’s see how it stacks up specs-wise to its predecessor, the iPhone 12, and the older iPhone 11.
Displays
The iPhone 13 has a 20% smaller notch than the iPhone 12. Both iPhone 13 and 12 have Super Retina XDR OLED HDR displays with 1200nits max brightness. The iPhone 13 has the same 6.1-inch, 2532 x 1170-pixel resolution, 460ppi display as the iPhone 12. The iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch LCD, 1792 x 828-pixel resolution, 625nits Liquid Retina HD LCD with 326ppi, and no HDR. All three have True Tone technology, wide color gamut(P3), and Haptic touch over 3D Touch
Size and build quality
All three devices have Aerospace-grade aluminum frames with flat, machined edges rather than rounded edges. They all have a notch at the top of the display, with the iPhone 13 having the smallest notch. The iPhone 11 has rounder edges than the iPhone 12 and 13. The iPhone 11 is slightly heavier at 194grams, then the iPhone 13 weighs 173grams, and the iPhone 12 weighs 162grams. All three are IP68-rated, with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 handling six meters for 30 minutes and the iPhone 11 doing 2 meters for 30 minutes.
The iPhone 13 lineup has diagonally arranged dual rear cameras with a larger housing, and the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 models have a vertically arranged dual rear camera setup. All devices retain Apple’s lightning port to charge and data transfer. The charging brick and MagSafe chargers for the iPhone 12/13 are sold separately. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 come with Superfast 5G, while the iPhone 11 only has 4G. The iPhone 12 and 13 have Ceramic Shield front screen, and the iPhone 11 has glass front and back.
Chip and performance
The iPhone 13 lineup houses the A15 bionic chip with 6-cores (2 performance cores and four efficiency cores), a 4-core GPU, 16 core Neural Engine, and up to 512GB of storage. The iPhone 12 is powered by the A14 Bionic chip with the same core configuration as the iPhone 13 with 256GB storage.
The iPhone 11 is powered by the A13 Bionic chip with a 6-Core CPU with 2 performance cores, four efficiency cores, a 4-core GPU, and an 8-core Neural engine with 128GB of storage. All the three lineups are dual sim with nano-SIM and eSIM. You can expect fluid performance with zero lags and stutters from all models, even for gaming and intense tasks.
Cameras
The iPhone 13/12 models have a dual rear camera with 12MP f/1.6 wide-angle and 12MP f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle with Night mode, Deep Fusion, 2x optical zoom, 5X Digital Zoom, and True Tone flash with Slow Sync and a 12MP f/2.2 TrueDepth front camera. iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 both have Dolby Vision HDR video recording up to 30fps with up to 60fps on the iPhone 13.
The iPhone 13 has several extra features like Photographic styles and cinematic video mode in 1080p at 30fps. The iPhone 12 has Smart HDR 3, while the iPhone 13 has Smart HDR 4. Both iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 have Optical image stabilization. The iPhone 13 has sensor-shift optical image stabilization.
The iPhone 11 has a dual rear camera with a 12 MP f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle camera, a 12MP f/1.8 wide-angle sensor, and a 12MP f/2.2 TrueDepth front camera. The iPhone 11 has similar features to the other two but misses out on Smart HDR, Cinematic modes, Dolby Vision HDR video recording, Deep Fusion, and Night Mode Time Lapse. All their front cameras have 4K video recording at 24fps,25fps, 30fps, and 60fps, and Cinematic video stabilization
Battery
The iPhone 13 has a large 3240mAh battery, the iPhone 12 has a 2815mAh battery, and the iPhone 11 has a 3110mAh battery. The iPhone 13 has 19hrs video playback, 15 hours of video streaming, and 75 hours of audio playback. The iPhone 13 has a fast-charge capable battery of up to 50% in 30 minutes, with the 20W adapter sold separately like the other two.
The iPhone 12 and 11 have both 17hours of video playback with 11 & 10 hours for video streaming, respectively, and up to 65 hours on audio playback. They all support Qi wireless charging, with the iPhone 11 missing out on MagSafe charging.
Extras
All three iPhones have Face ID, Apple Pay, Audio and video calling, Dolby Atmos, WIFI 6, Dolby Vision HDR 10, and HLG.
